#FrenchFromageFriday: An Ode to Tommes

Happy #FrenchFromageFriday, amis! 💕 We missed last week and were so sad to not be sharing all our cheese love with you, so we have an extra special cheese to share this week. 🥰

Today is an Ode To Tomme: Tomme Saint Georges. Before getting into the cheese world, we really had no idea what Tommes were, but the word in French translates to “round” or “wheel.” So primarily, Tommes refers to cheese in a round shape.

This style of cheese originated in the Savoie region of France (aka the French Alps). Alpine cheese makers would take leftover skimmed milk not being used for their giant wheels of Beaufort and Comté and Gruyère and create smaller wheels that only aged for a few months, so that they could feed their families in leaner months.

Tomme Saint Georges is special because while it’s still a Savoie cheese, it’s made from sheep’s milk! Relatively rare for the region, it’s creamy and nutty with a slight herbaceous finish (like creamy leek soup!). A delicious snacking cheese or perfect for melting into grilled cheese. 😍

What do you think, would you try this cheese? #brieherenow
